Every year, approximately 23 families in our community face the unimaginable: the quiet, shattering loss of a fetal demise. In these moments, the world stops, but the heavy weight of logistics and costs begins.
At Novant Health, we believe that meaningful care doesn't end when a patient leaves our doors. It takes a village to carry a family through their darkest hours. That is why Novant Health Rowan Medical Center Foundation is honored to introduce Payton’s Promise.
The Story Behind the Promise
Payton’s life was cut short just days before her scheduled induction. Her family was left with a nursery ready for a baby, but arms that were empty. In the midst of their devastation, they found a small, profound sense of peace in a handmade pottery urn that now sits on their living room shelf. It is a daily, tangible reminder that Payton existed, that she is loved, and that she is home.
Realizing that the financial burden of a memorial service is often a barrier to this kind of healing, Payton’s family turned their grief into a mission. With their blessing, Payton’s Promise was formed to ensure that no family is ever forced to walk away from their child without the opportunity to memorialize them.
